This Privacy Policy explains how CarbPal collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the CarbPal mobile app, website, subscription services, or contact support.
Information CarbPal may collect
- Account information: email address, account identifier, and authentication information.
- Profile settings: profile name or nickname, carb-ratio references, time-of-day labels, and app preferences.
- Meal information: saved foods, serving descriptions, carb entries, carb totals, meal notes, favorites, and meal history.
- LabelLens scan results: editable nutrition values extracted on the device. CarbPal does not collect or upload the selected photo.
- Optional log information: an insulin amount manually entered by the user for personal recordkeeping.
- Subscription information: product, entitlement, purchase, renewal, expiration, and restore status.
- Support and usage information: messages sent to support and limited technical information needed to operate, secure, and troubleshoot the app.
How information is used
CarbPal uses information to:
- Create and authenticate accounts.
- Provide carb-counting, saved-meal, profile, history, and export features.
- Read a user-selected Nutrition Facts label and return editable serving-size and nutrition values.
- Verify CarbPal Basic subscription access.
- Respond to support requests and troubleshoot app problems.
- Protect the app, prevent misuse, and comply with legal obligations.
Storage and service providers
Meal logs, carb entries, saved foods, and profile settings may be stored locally on the user's device. CarbPal uses service providers only as needed to operate the app:
- Supabase: account authentication and related backend or database services, where enabled.
- RevenueCat: subscription entitlement and purchase-status management.
- Apple App Store: payment processing, receipts, subscription billing, renewal, cancellation, and purchase restoration.
These providers process information under their own privacy terms. CarbPal does not receive your complete payment-card information from Apple.
On iPhone and iPad, LabelLens uses Apple Vision to read the selected Nutrition Facts image on the device. The image is not uploaded, added to meal history, or stored by CarbPal. Users must review extracted values before adding carbohydrates to the Carb Log.
Medical and health-related entries
CarbPal is a carb-counting and meal logging tool. It may show unit calculation reference math based on carb ratios entered by the user or caregiver. CarbPal does not recommend, suggest, adjust, or prescribe insulin doses. Any insulin amount entered in the app is manually entered by the user for personal logging only.
Sharing and sale of personal data
CarbPal does not sell personal data. Information may be shared with the service providers listed above when needed to operate the app, comply with law, protect users, or complete a transaction requested by the user.
Data retention and deletion
Information is kept only as long as reasonably necessary to provide the service, meet legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Users can initiate account deletion inside CarbPal from the Account section. Local meal and profile information can also be removed from the device through the app's deletion controls. Deleting a CarbPal account does not automatically cancel an Apple subscription.
Security
CarbPal uses reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect information. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
Children and family use
CarbPal is intended for use by families, parents, caregivers, and teens with appropriate parent or caregiver involvement. A parent or legal guardian should manage an account used by a child under the age required for independent consent in their location.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated as CarbPal changes. The effective date at the top of this page will be revised when material updates are published.
